The alphorn, the world's longest and most famous instrument, was first used a long time ago.

Back then, the alphorn was used as a working instrument by most shepherd tribes in Europe and Asia. The sounds of the alphorn, which could still be heard perfectly even from a distance, used to help the shepherds call their cows from the pasture to the barn when it was time for milking or when a storm was coming and the cows had to be brought to safety.

However, the main function of the alphorn at that time was to communicate with the shepherds of the neighboring Alps and with the people down in the valley. This is how the alphorn got its nickname: the "mobile phone" of the Stone Age.

As time went by, the alphorn would gradually lose its importance as a communication instrument for shepherds and became more and more rare, to a point where it almost died out.

It was not until the 1820s that the alphorn conquered the hearts of listeners as a musical instrument and became a special attraction. Nowadays it is hard to imagine the Oktoberfest and any other Bavarian events without it. The sound of an alphorn can be used as a wonderful way to welcome guests at birthday parties, weddings, Bavarian events or the Oktoberfest.

Our alphorn players (2, 3, or 4 musicians) can also be booked as part of the Oktoberfestband as the highlight of your event.
